We just came back from a beach holiday. Something we tried not to do often when Marisa was around because usually we only take Marisa somewhere disable friendly. The few times we did , she was always uncomfortable because we had to carry her off the plane in front of everyone which she didn't like. (Island airports are usually not so disable friendly. ) And when we got to the beach we'd be so far from the water because her wheelchair would sink when we tried to push her closer and that made her uncomfortable.
So I'd wait for her while we watch the others play by the beach and the enjoy the water .
I would notice how her expression longs to be with her siblings . I'd just sit next to her and ask her to look further and look up and see how beautiful it is. The sunset , the sea , the clouds etc. If she looks at her siblings all she'd see is what she's missing but if she looked further she'd be able to experience whatever senses she still has. Her sight and her hearing . We both would sit and cherish that moment and take in all the beauty nature has to offer us .
I thought of her when we were there . How she would've loved and hated it at the same . The scenery was breathtaking but she couldn't have done anything . Then I remembered what my dad told me .
"Adik, you're suppose to make different memories with different people. Some with me and mummy , some with your future husband and some with your kids". For a man , my dad was sappy like me . Like all good men, he passed too soon.
So when I looked at Mazeed and the three kids I realised this is my time with them to make memories for the 5 of us .
